Chelsea vs. Crystal Palace: Head-to-head record and past meetings

Ahead of Sunday's Premier League clash between Chelsea and Crystal Palace, Sports Mole looks at the head-to-head record and previous meetings between the two clubs.

Chelsea and Crystal Palace lock horns at Stamford Bridge for an all-London affair in the Premier League on Sunday.

The hosts recovered from an opening day defeat to thrash Wolverhampton Wanderers 6-2 last weekend, and Enzo Maresca's side also qualified for Conference League away at Servette on Thursday.

Chelsea are the third straight fellow London club Palace have faced to start the season, after opening with defeats to Brentford and West Ham United.

Here, Sports Mole takes an in-depth look at the previous meetings between these two London outfits.

Crystal Palace have been Chelsea's favourite opponents over the past decade, and the Blues have the opportunity to equal an English league record if they claim three points this weekend.

Dating back seven years, Chelsea have won 13 straight league games against the Eagles, plus an FA Cup semi-final victory in 2022, and only Manchester City have ever won 14 consecutive league games against a single opponent before - versus Bournemouth.

The last time Palace avoided defeat against Chelsea, Wilfried Zaha scored the decisive goal in a 2-1 win at Selhurst Park back in October 2017.

Prior to this dominant run for Chelsea, Palace had a respectable record against the Blues, winning at Stamford Bridge in back-to-back seasons - under Jose Mourinho in 2015-16 and Antonio Conte in 2016-17.

One of the most notable recent meetings between the two was in 2014, when a John Terry own goal saw Chelsea lose 1-0 at Selhurst Park, all but ending their hopes of winning the title that season.

All of Palace's four Premier League wins over Chelsea have come under different managers, and current boss Oliver Glasner will hope to join the list of Tony Pulis, Alan Pardew, Sam Allardyce and Roy Hodgson this weekend.

Chelsea have dished out their fair share of thrashings over Palace in the Premier League era though, winning their two meetings by a combined score of 9-2 in the 1997-98 season when Palace were newly promoted.

In Mourinho's first spell at Chelsea, they also made light work of the Eagles, beating them 4-1 at Stamford Bridge in a season where the Blues were crowned champions and Palace were relegated to the Championship.

Last season, a late Noni Madueke penalty saw Chelsea beat Palace 2-1 at home, and it was another late show at Selhurst Park, as injury-time goals from Conor Gallagher and Enzo Fernandez saw the Blues win 3-1.

That leaves Chelsea on 99 goals against Palace in their history, meaning a historic goal awaits for somebody in a blue shirt on Sunday.
