The 48-year-old was relieved of his duties following Scotland's poor start to the World Cup qualifying campaign.
Under-21 coach Billy Stark has filled the void, and has chosen to call up four uncapped players.
Steven Fletcher, Phil Bardsley, Charlie Adam, Barry Bannan, James Morrison, Matt Phillips and Shaun Maloney have all pulled out injured.
Scotland's last win came against Australia in August, but have not won on their travels in four games.
