Former Celtic boss Gordon Strachan reportedly emerges as the leading contender to take the managerial role at Scotland following the exit of Craig Levein.

Former Celtic manager Gordon Strachan has been tipped as the favourite to take charge of the Scottish national team.

The 55-year-old, who has been out of management since leaving Middlesbrough in 2010, is 5-4 on to replace Craig Levein, who left his post yesterday following a disappointing 2014 World Cup qualifying campaign.

Strachan is believed to have moved to the top of the pack following Levein's three-year tenure but Scotland Under-21 coach Billy Stark has been named as the side's temporary replacement.

Former Aston Villa boss Alex McLeish and ex-Bolton Wanderers coach Owen Coyle have also been named as possible contenders for the role.
