Simon Davies joins Welsh village team

Former Wales, Tottenham Hotspur and Fulham midfielder Simon Davies joins Welsh Division Two club Solva AFC.

Former Premier League footballer Simon Davies has agreed to turn out for his hometown club Solva AFC.

The 34-year-old, who played for Peterborough United, Tottenham Hotspur and Everton, has been without a team since he was released by Fulham in the summer of 2013.

Now, the midfielder has returned to the game with Welsh Division Two outfit Solva, whom he will have to pay £3 subs a week to play.

"I'm looking forward to playing a few games with my brother and the friends I started playing with all those years ago," he told the Western Telegraph.

Meanwhile, Solva's club secretary Tracey Cole added: "It's a big signing for the club. I've already told him I'm not paying him - he's going to have to pay subs like everyone else.

"He watched the boys play on Saturday, had a few laughs and went out with them down The Ship afterwards. He seems keen and hopefully he'll be available for a few matches."

Davies has been capped by Wales on 58 occasions, during which time he has scored six goals.
