Preview: Tottenham Hotspur Ladies vs. Manchester United Women - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Sunday's Women's Super League clash between Tottenham Hotspur Ladies and Manchester United Women, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Tottenham Hotspur Ladies will attempt to end a four-game winless league run when they play host to Manchester United Women on Sunday.

The visitors, who occupy fourth place, will have the chance to record a third consecutive victory in all competitions.

Tottenham went into the international break in a despondent mood after they followed three consecutive draws with a heavy 7-0 defeat to Manchester City.

Bunny Shaw netted a first-half hat-trick to lead Man City to a comfortable win and end Tottenham's eight-game unbeaten run in all competitions, leaving Spurs in fifth position and three points adrift of Sunday's opponents.

While they would have been disappointed with those results, Spurs will still be pleased with their overall form this season, having picked up 12 points from their eight games - just six points shy of last season's overall tally.

With both of their league wins taking place on the road, Spurs still have an unbeaten record to defend after avoiding defeat in their last six home WSL games since losing to Arsenal in March.

Although they are proving to be a tough team to beat on home turf, Tottenham have had to settle for 1-1 draws in their last two home league meetings with Everton and Liverpool.

Manchester United recovered from a Manchester derby defeat to go into the international break off the back of consecutive victories.

The Red Devils recorded a narrow 1-0 win over Liverpool in the League Cup, before they beat Bristol City 2-0 in their most recent WSL outing thanks to goals from Hinata Miyazawa and Nikita Parris.

While the victory leaves Man United just one point shy of third-placed Man City, they are seven points adrift of league leaders Chelsea, indicating that a title challenge may be off the cards this season.

Although inconsistency has affected their title aspirations, Man United have enjoyed success on the road, having won three of their four away league games this season (D1).

As a result, Man United are one of three teams yet to lose a WSL away game this term, they will be confident about maintaining that record after winning each of their last three matches against Tottenham, including a 2-1 victory in last season's away fixture.

Team News

Tottenham remain without the services of long-term absentee Olga Ahtinen, while Eveliina Summanen is a doubt after missing the defeat to Man City.

Captain Bethany England, who is yet to feature this season, stepped up her recovery from hip surgery to score four goals in a training-ground friendly against Gibraltar's national team over the international break.

While England could be on the bench, former Manchester United striker Martha Thomas will look to add to her six-goal league tally when she leads the line against the club she left in the summer.

As for the visitors, their injury list includes Emma Watson, Gabby George, Jessica Simpson, Aoife Mannion and Evie Rabjohn.

Skinner has revealed that Miyazawa will be out of action until Christmas after sustaining a knee injury while on international duty.

Midfielder Irene Guerrero is progressing well in her recovery from injury, but she may not be risked in Man United's remaining three matches of 2023.

Tottenham Hotspur Ladies possible starting lineup:

We say: Tottenham Hotspur Ladies 1-2 Manchester United Women

While Tottenham may be unbeaten in six home league games, their confidence would have taken a significant hit following the heavy 7-0 defeat to Manchester City before the international break.

Man United, meanwhile, have won three of their four away league games this season, and we think that they will draw upon those results to claim a narrow victory on Sunday.
