The visitors started very brightly and both Daniele De Rossi and Marquinhos came close to opening the scoring in the first half but shot narrowly wide.

Just as Sampdoria started to get on top at the start of the second half the visitors went ahead as Mehdi Benatia tapped in from a Kevin Strootman cross.

Samp came forward again but were unable to level through Nicola Pozzi's header, as his effort went over.

In the end it was Roma who wrapped up the points with a swift break, Gervinho finishing from Francesco Totti's assist.
