Steve Evans rules out automatic promotion

Rotherham United boss Steve Evans has ruled out his side's chances of securing automatic promotion from League One this season.

Rotherham United boss Steve Evans has ruled out his side's chances of securing automatic promotion from League One this season.

As it stands, the Millers are fifth in the table on 51 points, but Evans expects Leyton Orient, Brentford and Wolverhampton Wanderers to battle for the top two positions.

"The top three are getting extraordinary results. Leyton Orient were top a few weeks ago and Russell Slade must have been shaking his head because they were only a point clear after being on an incredible run," he told reporters.

"Normally if you go on a run like they have been or Brentford are on now you've got automatic promotion sorted and the flip-flops on in February but none of the top three have.

"It is between Brentford, Wolves and Leyton Orient for the top two and we are going to have to do battle to with five teams to get in the playoffs. If we can keep where we are it's extraordinary progress."

Rotherham have lost just six of their 29 league games this season.
