Marek Hamsik surprised by emphatic Napoli win

Marek Hamsik says that he did not expect Napoli to secure a 4-1 first-leg Europa League win away to in-form Wolfsburg.

Napoli schemer Marek Hamsik has admitted that he is surprised by the comfortable nature of their 4-1 Europa League win away to in-form German side Wolfsburg.

Hamsik netted twice as Rafael Benitez's side placed one foot in the semi-final of the competition last night.

"It was a great performance we didn't expect this result, even if we could've done even better," he told Mediaset.

"It's a shame we conceded that goal late on, but the important thing is that we got four away from home. It's not over yet, but we have made a huge step towards qualification for the next round."

Goals from Gonzalo Higuain and the Slovakian ace helped the Partenopei into a comfortable 2-0 half-time lead in Germany.

Hamsik added a third on 64 minutes, before Manolo Gabbiadini struck a fourth, but Nicklas Bendtner threw his side the slimmest of lifelines in Naples by bagging a late consolation.
