Charlie Nicholas: 'Manchester United should sign Gareth Bale'

Manchester United should attempt to sign Real Madrid winger Gareth Bale this summer, according to Charlie Nicholas.

Former Arsenal striker Charlie Nicholas believes that Manchester United should break the bank to sign Gareth Bale from Real Madrid this summer.

Bale has received criticism from Madrid supporters this season, and he has been heavily linked with a move back to the Premier League.

United are expected to spend over £100m this summer, and Nicholas thinks that Bale should be apart of their plans.

He told Sky Sports News: "If you want to make a serious statement, then you need to throw everything at getting Gareth Bale. He's the sort of player that can create a massive excitement and help United make an immediate impact when they return to the Champions League.

"I think Bale would be open to returning to the Premier League, even if he wouldn't say it.

"United can say to him, 'you've been successful in Spain winning the Champions League but after your ups and downs, you can come here and be our Ronaldo, rather than playing second fiddle'".

Bale joined Real Madrid in 2013.
