Manchester United forward Romelu Lukaku's record vs. Southampton

Sports Mole looks at Romelu Lukaku's impressive past record against Southampton ahead of their trip to face Manchester United on Saturday.

Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku fired a reminder to manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer of exactly what he can offer in a central striking role during Wednesday night's 3-1 win over Crystal Palace.

Having lost his place as the team's number one striker to Marcus Rashford, Lukaku took full advantage of the England international's injury by scoring twice at Selhurst Park.

The Belgian will hope to have done enough to keep his place in the starting lineup for Saturday's visit of Southampton to Old Trafford as United look to keep the pressure on in the top-four race.

Here, Sports Mole looks at how he has fared against the Saints in the past.

Lukaku has directly contributed to 10 goals in his 11 Premier League appearances against Southampton, scoring seven himself and creating a further three.

The United striker was among the scorers in the reverse fixture in December as he sparked a comeback for United from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 in what would prove to be one of Jose Mourinho's final matches in charge.

Indeed, Lukaku has now scored three goals in his last four appearances against the Saints, although his only previous meeting with them at Old Trafford ended in a goalless draw last season.

The 25-year-old has won one and drawn two of his three meetings as a Manchester United player, having scored four goals in six games during his time with Everton and one in two with West Bromwich Albion.

Only two of his seven goals against Southampton have come in home games, though, and that is a record he will be eager to improve upon this weekend as he looks to secure a starting role against Paris Saint-Germain.
