League Two roundup: Burton Albion blow chance to go top

Sports Mole rounds up all of Saturday's action from League Two as Burton Albion miss out on going top after being held to a 1-1 draw by York City.

Burton Albion missed their chance to go top of League Two after they were held to a 1-1 draw by York City at Bootham Crescent.

A debut goal from Emile Sinclair seemed set to give York a precious win before Adam McGurk rescued a draw for Burton with an equaliser in the dying minutes.

Wycombe Wanderers remain top despite being held to a goalless draw by Mansfield Town, who ended a three-game losing run with a point at the One Call Stadium.

However, they now only lead by a single point as Shrewsbury Town moved level on points with Burton with a dramatic 3-2 victory over Stevenage that preserves their unbeaten home record.

A brace from James Collins and a Liam Lawrence penalty cancelled out strikes from Adam Marriott and Dean Wells as Micky Mellon's side leapfrogged Burton into second place.

Shaun Whalley's goal rescued a point for high-flying Luton Town against Cheltenham Town, while Portsmouth's slide down the table continued after blowing a 1-0 lead against Southend United.

Goals from Ryan Leonard and Joe Pigott won a bad-tempered affair for Southend as both sides finished with 10 men. The result lifts the Seasiders up to fifth.

Bury climbed back into the top seven after Daniel Nardiello's 10th and 11th goals of the season secured a 2-1 win over Carlisle United, but Newport County fall to sixth after a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Northampton Town.

Ryan Cresswell, John-Joe O'Toole and Lawson D'Ath were all on the scoresheet for the Cobblers as Justin Edinburgh's side were well beaten.

AFC Wimbledon beat Accrington Stanley 2-1 thanks to goals from Sean Rig and Adebayo Azeez, while Plymouth Argyle fall to 10th after Jack Redshaw cancelled out Reuben Reid's 13 goal of the season in a 1-1 draw with Morecambe.

Exeter City also slip down the table after a 2-2 draw with Oxford United, while Hartlepool United remain seven points adrift at the bottom despite a 1-1 draw with Tranmere Rovers.
