Saint-Etienne and Reims shared the points in a 0-0 draw on Sunday.
It was the home side that started the better and they might have taken the lead after two minutes when Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang burst into the box, but his shot was saved by Kossi Agassa.
Fabien Lemoine was next to come close for Saint-Etienne, but he fired wide after 14 minutes. Meanwhile, Aubameyang had three more opportunities before the 30-minute mark in the match.
The home side continued to dominate proceedings as the second half advanced with Lemoine coming close to opening the scores before the hour mark.
The away side's best chance of the second period came to Grzegorz Krychowiak when he met a cross in the middle of the box, but he headed wide of the target.
