New England Revolution kept the pressure on the MLS Eastern Conference leaders with a 2-0 home win over San Jose Earthquakes.
The home side threatened early on as Saer Sene was put through behind the visitors' defence, but he could only fire straight at Jon Busch.
Sene wasn't to be denied in the 12th minute, however, as he gave his side the lead with a spectacular left-footed shot that sailed into the top corner of the net.
New England were on top and Busch had to be at his best to stop them from doubling their advantage when Andrew Farrell surged into the area and fired a low effort at goal, but the keeper stuck out a leg and turned it wide.
After the break, the Revolution could have gone further ahead but Lee Nguyen's low shot went just the wrong side of the post with Busch beaten.
New England did get their second goal in the 78th minute when Kelyn Rowe raided down the right and found Nguyen in the area, who in turn played the ball to Dimitry Imbongo to blast it into the top corner to seal the win.
