Five-star Barcelona sweep aside Cordoba

David Villa and Alexis Sanchez both score braces as Barcelona reach the quarter-finals of the Copa del Rey.

Barcelona put five past Segunda Division side Cordoba in the second leg of their fifth-round Copa del Rey tie to come away 7-0 winners on aggregate this evening.

The La Liga leaders opened the scoring in the 17th minute through Thiago, the Brazilian firing into the bottom corner after being picked out by Alex Song.

David Villa added a second just four minutes later, chipping one into the top corner after Alexis Sanchez's effort was parried by Cordoba keeper Mikel Saizar.

Villa grabbed his second and Barca's third with less than half an hour on the clock when he drove home from close range following sloppy defending from the visitors.

Thiago almost grabbed his second in the 35th minute, rattling the crossbar with a curling strike from outside the area, but there were more goals to come in the second half.

Sanchez got his name on the scoresheet in the 56th minute when he leaped highest in the area to head home a pinpoint cross from Thiago.

There was still time for the Chilean bundle home Barca's fifth of the night and seventh on aggregate in the 85th minute, the ball falling kindly for him after Saizar failed to hold Tello's shot.

Tito Vilanova's side will take on Malaga in the quarter-finals of the competition.
