Phil Parkinson: 'Bolton Wanderers have underdog spirit'

Bolton Wanderers manager Phil Parkinson says that his side are determined to prove people wrong on their return to the Championship this season.

Bolton Wanderers manager Phil Parkinson has said that his side are determined to prove people wrong on their return to the second tier this season.

The Trotters are among the favourites to suffer relegation from the Championship this term having only won promotion last season, but Parkinson has brought in 11 new signings in an attempt to strengthen his squad.

Bolton's first game back in the division will come at home to Leeds United on Sunday, and Parkinson insists that the club are looking forward to getting started and fighting for survival.

"We come into the league with a lot of confidence and a good mentality. We are a team that were used to winning last year," he told reporters.

"We're one of the favourites to go down, but we have an underdog mentality to prove people wrong. We'll fight to bridge the gap.

"Everyone is eagerly anticipating the season. There's an excitement around the club and what a great game to start with."

Bolton won promotion from League One at the first attempt last season.
