Audi has officially completed its full takeover of the Sauber Formula 1 team, solidifying its control as part of its preparations for a full works rebranding in 2026.
"The complete takeover of Sauber Holding AG by Audi AG was completed as planned in January 2025," a spokesman confirmed to Auto Motor und Sport.
"Audi has thus taken the next important step on the way to Formula 1 shortly after the turn of the year.
"Audi previously held a minority stake in Sauber Holding AG," the spokesperson added.
While Audi now fully owns the Swiss-based team, the company had previously announced plans to sell a portion of the team to Qatar's sovereign wealth fund. This deal is expected to involve the transfer of approximately 30 percent of the shares.
As part of the ongoing transition, Alessandro Alunni Bravi will step down from his role as Sauber's 'team representative.' He will be succeeded by former Red Bull team manager Jonathan Wheatley as team principal.
"Wheatley's suspension period actually runs until July," explained Auto Motor und Sport's Tobias Gruner. "But in the background, talks are currently taking place with Red Bull to enable him to start work earlier."
