EFL to meet with Wolverhampton Wanderers over third-party ownership complaints

The EFL announces that they will hold discussions with Wolverhampton Wanderers after a number of clubs expressed concerns over the club's ownership.

The EFL has announced that discussions will be held with Wolverhampton Wanderers regarding regulations dealing with third-party ownership.

Earlier this month, it was reported that a number of clubs had 'voiced concerns' over Wolves' transfer dealings and the influence of super-agent Jorge Mendes, who advised Fosun International on the takeover of the club and has a number of his players currently representing the Championship leaders.

The EFL held a meeting regarding the matter on Thursday, and it has resulted in the governing body revealing that they intend to conduct talks with the hierarchy of the West Midlands outfit.

A statement read: "At a meeting today, the EFL board considered - at length - the matter of the relationship between Wolves, its majority shareholders and Jorge Mendes, in light of recent concerns raised by a number of clubs.

"It was agreed that an EFL executive will meet with the management of the club to reiterate the requirements of our regulations and those at the FA, and a report will be provided for the board in due course.

"It should be noted that Wolves were explicitly informed in July 2016 of all of the requirements that were expected to be met as part of the change of control and that appropriate arrangements were put in place to ensure compliance. The club have confirmed that the undertakings given at the time remain in place and are being complied with."

Wolves currently lead the second-tier table by six points.
