Gareth Bale is omitted from Tottenham Hotspur's starting lineup, while Sunderland choose new signing Emanuele Giaccherini to start in the Asia Trophy clash.

Tottenham Hotspur winger Gareth Bale will play no part in his side's Asia Trophy clash against Sunderland due to reports of a minor injury.

The Wales international, who has been heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid, has been removed from the first XI by manager Andre Villas-Boas, who has opted for a midfield of Tom Huddlestone, Scott Parker, Aaron Lennon and Gylfi Sigurdsson.

Captain Michael Dawson will line up alongside Steven Caulker in defence, while Emmanuel Adebayor is handed a place up front.

Meanwhile, Sunderland manager Paolo Di Canio has named new signing Emanuele Giaccherini in his starting lineup along with Jozy Altidore up front.

Tottenham XI: Gomes; Walker, Caulker, Dawson, Rose; Huddlestone, Parker, Lennon, Sigurdsson; Dempsey, Adebayor

Sunderland XI: Mannone; Brown, Cabral, O'Shea, Colback; Larsson, Gardner; Johnson, Sessegnon, Giaccherini; Altidore
