Toby Alderweireld determined to clinch win over Real Madrid

Tottenham Hotspur defender Toby Alderweireld claims that a win over Real Madrid on Tuesday could be key for the squad's confidence ahead of the new season.

Toby Alderweireld has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are determined to record victory when they continue their preparations for the season by facing Real Madrid on Tuesday.

Spurs meet Real in the first of their two Audi Cup matches at the Allianz Arena tomorrow, and Alderweireld believes that a positive result could make a difference ahead of Saturday's Premier League opener against Manchester United.

"Real are one of the best teams in the world and they are very strong both at the back and up front," the Belgian defender, who joined the club from Atletico Madrid earlier this summer, told the club's website.

"They can score from anything so we'll have to be at our best to get a result against them, but I think we're capable of winning.

"We have to try to get a good result to boost our confidence for the start of the season."

Hosts Bayern Munich will meet AC Milan in Tuesday's second Audi Cup game.
