The away side took the lead against the run of play in the 34th minute when Brandao tapped in Romain Hamouma's cross at the back post.

Saint-Etienne had chances to double their advantage in the second half, but Brandao and Banel Nicolita both squandered decent openings.

Meanwhile, Ajaccio looked toothless in attack and failed to trouble their opponents.

A bad afternoon for the hosts got worse in injury time when Benjamin Andre was shown a second yellow card for clattering into Benjamin Corgnet.
