The New York Red Bulls have earned a draw against the Vancouver Whitecaps after a late Heath Pearce header at BC Place.
The Red Bulls started brightly but found Vancouver goalkeeper Joe Cannon in fine form as he frustrated them on a number of occasions.
Joel Lindpere found Dax McCarty with an inviting cross but the midfielder was superbly denied by Cannon.
Vancouver settled into the match as the first period wore on but it was New York who had the best chance of the half when Cannon kept Kenny Cooper's header out.
The Red Bulls started the second period in the same fashion as they started the first and were nearly ahead when Lindpere unleashed a shot from long range which was once again well stopped by Cannon.
As the match entered the closing stages it looked as though the match would end in a stalemate until Vancouver were awarded a corner in the 75th minute.
Alain Rochat's delivery evaded the Red Bulls defence and Martin Bonjour met the ball with a powerful volley that flew past Ryan Meara.
Bonjour's goal looked to be enough for the victory until four minutes from time when defender Pearce headed Lindpere's corner in from close range to snatch a draw.
