Joey Barton is dropped by Marseille for tonight's Ligue 1 encounter at home to Bordeaux.

Joey Barton has been dropped by Marseille for tonight's Ligue 1 encounter at home to Bordeaux.

The midfielder, who starts on the bench at the Stade Velodrome, recently apologised to Paris Saint-Germain defender Thiago Silva following a spat on Twitter.

The 30-year-old suggested that Silva was a transsexual after the Brazilian took exception to criticism of his national team.

Barton is on loan at Marseille from Queens Park Rangers until the end of the season.
