Chris Smalling, Luke Shaw linked with Manchester United exit

Liverpool and Arsenal are said to be closing in on Manchester United's Luke Shaw and Chris Smalling.

Manchester United's Chris Smalling and Luke Shaw could allegedly leave Old Trafford in the near future to pursue opportunities at rival Premier League clubs.

Liverpool and Arsenal are said to be circling the defensive duo following reports that they have fallen out of favour with Red Devils boss Jose Mourinho, according to The Mirror.

The Portuguese coach recently criticised Smalling and Shaw for bowing out of last weekend's Premier League meeting with Swansea City through injury, publicly questioning their desire to play for the club.

Liverpool are said to be targeting £29m-rated Shaw to bring in competition for James Milner at left-back, while Arsenal have reportedly rekindled their interest in Smalling.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger attempted to sign Smalling from Fulham in 2010, only to lose out to United.
