Liverpool held by West Ham United

West Ham United absorb a large amount of pressure to collect a point from their trip to Liverpool.

Liverpool failed to turn domination into goals during their Premier League encounter against West Ham United at Anfield this afternoon, settling for a 0-0 draw.

The hosting Reds created the better of the chances during the opening 45 minutes, but they were unable to find a way beyond Jussi Jaaskelainen in the visiting goal.

The Finn first denied Philippe Coutinho with seven minutes played before getting a hand to a strike from leading goalscorer Luis Suarez.

Liverpool continued to apply pressure after the restart and went close to breaking the deadlock with 55 minutes on the clock.

The ball dropped to Steven Gerrard on the edge of the box and his strike would have gone in but for a clearance by Joey O'Brien.

The Reds did have the ball in the net with 65 minutes gone, but Daniel Sturridge was adjudged to have been in an offside position when he diverted Jordan Henderson's shot into the net.

In the closing stages the visiting Hammers almost stole all three points when Jack Collison's goalbound clearance was hooked off the line by Lucas.
