Huddersfield Town 'to appoint former Borussia Dortmund assistant'

David Wagner reportedly turns down the chance to take up a coaching position at Liverpool to instead move into senior management with Championship side Huddersfield Town.

Former Borussia Dortmund assistant manager David Wagner has reportedly turned down the chance to join Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool and instead take up the vacant job at Huddersfield Town.

The 44-year-old had been linked with a Klopp reunion following the eccentric German's arrival at Anfield last month, but the ex-United States international is said to be keen on moving into full-time senior management.

Wagner's previous coaching experience has seen him take charge of Dortmund's reserve side for four years, while also developing players at Hoffenheim to earn the acclaim of many Bundesliga sides.

According to widespread reports, however, including ESPN and The Guardian, Wagner could be appointed as Chris Powell's successor at the John Smith's Stadium within the next 24 hours.

Powell was dismissed on Wednesday morning with the Terriers sitting five points above the Championship relegation zone.
