Leicester City's key wins this season

Sports Mole picks out five of Leicester City's best wins from league and cup in their promotion season.

Leicester City's 2-1 win over Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday, combined with Bournemouth's victory over Queens Park Rangers, has confirmed the Foxes as the first team promoted to the Premier League for next season.

It took them 10 years to get back into the top flight, but they have slowly built a team capable of promotion and should be well-placed to give survival a real shot next term.

Following Nigel Pearson's side's heroics this season, Sports Mole has paid tribute to their achievements by picking out five of their best, most important, or most exciting wins this season.

1. Burnley 0-2 Leicester - March 29, 2014

This was the game that all but, not not quite, confirmed Leicester's return to the top flight. Very few teams in the Championship up to this point had been able to take anything from Burnley but Leicester, who at the time were six points clear, made it nine rather than three with a thoroughly professional 2-0 win. David Nugent and Chris Wood scored the goals, as Leicester moved to a maximum of three wins away from promotion and a first home defeat on Burnley for over a year.

2. Leicester 4-3 Fulham - October 29, 2013

Although Fulham had struggled all season to this point, this win showed firstly that Leicester could more than play their part against Premier League opposition, and that they had a battling team spirit. They came from behind on the night to lead twice and even managed to recover from a late equaliser that looked as though it would take the game to extra time. Lloyd Dyer's late winner gave Leicester a real momentum boost for the season ahead.

3. QPR 0-1 Leicester - December 21, 2013

Another away win against a fellow title-chasing side, but this victory over Queens Park Rangers came under different circumstances. Going into this game the Foxes were on their longest winless run of the season, of three games, and another defeat - following a home draw with Burnley - could have seen their challenge falter. However, Jamie Vardy's solitary goal was enough to consign QPR to their first home defeat of the season and reignite Leicester's form.

4. Leicester 2-1 Sheffield Wednesday - April 5, 2014

The game that confirmed their promotion. Every promoted team remembers the day it happened, and Leicester's win over Wednesday will be no different. It came slightly earlier than expected, what with Bournemouth's win over QPR on the next day, but Foxes fans will not mind at all. They have been unbeaten since the middle of December and even though promotion was inevitable for some time, the celebrations can really begin now.

5. Leicester 5-3 Bolton - December 29, 2013

Although Leicester's promotion has been built on solid foundations, with plenty of clean sheets and making themselves tough to beat, they have had a handful of thumping and exciting wins. Perhaps their best victory for the neutral to see was the 5-3 classic against Bolton Wanderers. Not only was it exciting, but it also extended their lead to four points at the top of the table.
