War veterans react angrily to news that FIFA won't allow England to wear a poppy on their kit for the upcoming match against Spain.

War veterans have reacted angrily after FIFA refused to allow England to display a poppy on their shirts for the match against Spain on Saturday.

FIFA rules state that home teams cannot make any changes to their kits for international matches.

However, veterans are angry that England won't be wearing a poppy next weekend.

"I'm lost for words. I can't see any harm in wearing a poppy. It's so sad," said George Batt, the general secretary of the Normandy Veterans' Association.

"You surely don't need rules and regulations in FIFA like this?

"I would think about 90% of the population wear them [poppies]. I think it's a bit childish because, after all is said and done, if it wasn't for us blokes, FIFA wouldn't be here."

England will now wear a poppy on their training kit at Wembley instead, with all the kit due to be auctioned off for charity.
