Frank Lampard admits that he would "love" to work with newly-appointed England boss Roy Hodgson.

Frank Lampard has said he would "love" to work with newly-appointed England manager Roy Hodgson in the national setup.

Hodgson was surprisingly appointed as Three Lions boss earlier this week ahead of Lampard's uncle Harry Redknapp, who was viewed as the heavy favourite for the post left vacant by Fabio Capello in February.

However, the Chelsea midfielder has put his family connections to one side by insisting that the 64-year-old is a smart appointment and somebody he is hoping to work with at the European Championships.

"It is a good appointment. He is a very experienced manager - international experience and club football experience," said Lampard.

"He seems like a very educated man [and] completely fits the role very well.

"Ideally, if I put in good performances in the season and can be involved in the squad, he is the sort of manager you love to work with."

Lampard has made 90 appearances for England since making his debut in 1999.
