Preview: Brighton & Hove Albion Women vs. Tottenham Hotspur Ladies - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Sunday's Women's Super League clash between Brighton & Hove Albion Women and Tottenham Hotspur Ladies, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Tottenham Hotspur Ladies will attempt to record a third consecutive victory across all competitions when they travel to the Amex Stadium for Sunday's Women's Super League clash with Brighton & Hove Albion Women.

The Seagulls will be looking to claim a second straight win after beating Birmingham City 3-0 in Wednesday's League Cup meeting.

Brighton boss Melissa Phillips has experienced a steady start to her first full season in charge, having overseen two victories and one defeat in three competitive matches.

The Seagulls got their campaign up and running with a narrow 2-1 away win over Everton, before their first home game of the season produced a disappointing 2-0 defeat to West Ham United.

Brighton went back on their travels in midweek, and it proved to be a successful trip after goals from Charlize Rule, Katie Robinson and Elisabeth Terland guided the Seagulls to a 3-0 victory over second-tier Birmingham City in the League Cup.

While they have won both of their away matches this term, the Seagulls have lost their last three home league games, including defeats to Arsenal and Leicester City in the closing stages of the 2022-23 season.

Brighton have won two of their last three home games against Spurs, but they will want to forget their most recent home meeting in October 2022 when they were hammered 8-0 in what proved to be the final game of Hope Powell's tenure.

Robert Vilahamn began his tenure as Tottenham boss with a 2-1 defeat to London rivals Chelsea, but his side have bounced back from that result to claim consecutive victories.

Olga Ahtinen, Martha Thomas and Eveliina Summanen all got on the scoresheet last weekend as Spurs eased to a 3-1 win over newly-promoted Bristol City.

Tottenham went on to showcase their attacking talent once again in Wednesday's 6-0 League Cup win over Reading, which came courtesy of goals from Zhang Linyan, Kit Graham, Asmita Ale, Ria Percival, Jessica Naz and Thomas.

While Spurs will have fond memories of last year's 8-0 victory against Brighton, that result still represents their most recent away league win.

Since thrashing the Seagulls in October 2022, Tottenham have lost eight and drawn one of their last nine away matches in the WSL.

Team News

Tottenham Hotspur Women's Martha Thomas celebrates scoring their first goal with teammates on October 1, 2023© Reuters

The hosts have made a number of changes for the midweek cup win, but Phillips is likely to revert back to the side that started the opening two league games.

Goalkeeper Sophia Baggaley is expected to be shielded by a back three featuring Guro Bergsvand, Maria Thorisdottir and Emma Kullberg.

Terland is set to feature up front for the Seagulls, and the Norway international will look to add to the three competitive goals that she has scored this season.

As for the visitors, they are still unable to call upon their captain Beth England, who is recovering from hip surgery.

Long-term absentees Ellie Brazil and Ramona Petzelberger continue to work their way to full fitness, but the pair remain unavailable for Sunday's away trip.

Thomas, who arrived from Manchester United in the summer, will be looking to score in a fourth consecutive game when she leads the line at the Amex Stadium.

Brighton & Hove Albion Women possible starting lineup:
Baggaley; Bergsvand, Thorisdottir, Kullberg; Robinson, Losada, Bremer, Zigiotti Olme, Pattinson; Terland, Lee

Tottenham Hotspur Ladies possible starting lineup:
Spencer; James, Buhler, Bartrip, Neville; Ahtinen, Spence, Summanen; Bizet, Clinton, Thomas

We say: Brighton & Hove Albion Women 1-1 Tottenham Hotspur Ladies

Both sides have shown promising signs in the early stages of the season, and we think a close-fought contest will result in the spoils being shared at the Amex Stadium.
