Ricardo Vaz Te scored a hattrick as Barnsley trounced Leeds United in the Yorkshire derby this afternoon.
The Portuguese forward didn't start the game but was introduced after a quarter of an hour when captain Jacob Butterfield was forced off.
Vaz Te didn't take long to get involved and scored the opener against the run of play two minutes after his introduction by firing past Andy Lonergen.
Barnsley then took control of the game and went two ahead six minutes after half time when Vaz Te collected a loose ball and found the bottom corner.
Craig Davies made it three with a curling effort ten minutes later before Vaz Te completed his treble with a low strike.
Luciano Becchio scored a consolation for the visitors in stoppage time with a header but Simon Grayson will be unimpressed with the performance and will hope for an improvement in their first game of 2012 against Burnley on Monday.
Barnsley begin the New Year also in Yorkshire with a trip to struggling Doncaster.
