West Ham moved level on points with Championship leaders Southampton after a 1-0 win over Barnsley on Saturday afternoon.
It was West Ham who began the match the better and they registered the first goal of the afternoon after just six minutes.
Mark Noble crossed to Papa Bouba Diop, and the ex-Fulham man made no mistake with a header from close range.
Barnsley remained a threat, however, and Ricardo Vaz Te nearly found the equaliser after 12 minutes, but his effort drifted just wide.
The away side almost secured the equaliser moments after the restart, but Rob Edwards' header from close range drifted wide of the left-hand post.
Both sides made changes late in the half but chances were few and far between as the match approached the latter stages.
West Ham will look to continue their solid run of form when they travel to Birmingham on Boxing Day, while Barnsley host Blackpool.
