Preview: Atletico Madrid vs. Malmo

Sports Mole previews Wednesday's Champions League Group A clash between Atletico Madrid and Malmo.

Atletico Madrid will attempt to make it back-to-back Group A wins when they welcome Malmo in the Champions League on Wednesday evening.

Atletico, who were beaten in last season's final by Real Madrid, opened their campaign with a surprise defeat at Olympiacos, but recorded a 1-0 win over Italian champions Juventus last time out.

Malmo, meanwhile, have also taken three points from their first two matches, with their 2-0 win over Olympiacos earlier this month their first victory in the group stages of a UEFA competition.

It has been 50 years since these two clubs have met and it was Atletico that triumphed 5-1 on aggregate during their two-legged affair in the first round of the 1966-67 European Champion Clubs' Cup.

Overall, Atletico have won 18 of their last 20 European games at the Vicente Calderon, but Malmo have not recorded an away win in the European Cup proper since beating Monaco in the first round of the 1978-79 season.

Malmo lost 2-1 in the league to Elfsborg at the weekend, but they have already secured the Swedish title after beating AIK Solna earlier this month.

Atletico, meanwhile, currently sit fourth in La Liga after eight matches and have won four of their last five matches in all competitions.

Atletico boss Diego Simeone has no suspensions to consider, but Portuguese midfielder Tiago could miss out after departing in the second half of Sunday's 2-0 league win over Espanyol with a muscular injury.

As a result, Mario Suarez should come into the XI. There is also expected to be a change in goal, with Jan Oblak replacing Miguel Moya. Miranda, meanwhile, will return at centre-back alongside Diego Godin after sitting out the Espanyol clash.

Malmo, meanwhile, are expected to be without the services of Filip Helander, who has a foot injury. As a result, Markus Halsti should come into the XI.

Experienced forward Marcus Rosenberg will lead the line for the visitors, while Enoch Kofi Adu should also start.
