Arouca claim opening-day win over Moreirense in Primeira Liga

Goals from Nuno Coelho and Maurides fire Arouca to an opening-day win over over Moreirense in their Primeira Liga clash.

Nuno Coelho and Maurides netted second-half goals to guide Arouca to a 2-0 victory over Moreirense in their Primeira Liga opening-day clash this evening.

Neither side was able to find a breakthrough in the first half as both teams struggled for quality in the final third of the pitch.

In the second half, the visitors became the more dangerous of the two sides as they pushed further up the field in search of an opener.

Arouca finally broke the deadlock in the 69th minute when Coelho buried his effort beyond the reach of Moreirense keeper Nilson.

The visitors then secured the three points when Maurides found the net in the 76th minute with a low strike into the bottom corner.
