The two-time Wimbledon champion had sneaked into the last four on Friday, but she showed her class during a 6-3 7-6 triumph over Sharapova.
Despite a lengthy spell on the sidelines, Sharapova impressed during the group stages in Singapore, but she found herself second best to Kvitova during the first set.
The Czech hitter took full advantage of Sharapova's poor second serve, winning 10 of 14 points to break three times on the way to getting within touching distance of the final.
Sharapova responded at the start of the second to race into a 5-1 lead, but Kvitova refused to give up the set, fighting back to force a tie-break.
Her Russian opponent gained the early mini-break but Kvitova reeled off seven of the next eight points to earn a place in the final, where she will play Agnieszka Radwanska after the Pole beat Garbine Muguruza earlier on Saturday.
