Andrey Kuznetsov knocks out David Ferrer in five-set thriller

Andrey Kuznetsov twice comes from behind to beat seventh seed David Ferrer 6-7(5) 6-0 3-6 6-3 6-2 in the second round of Wimbledon.

Andrey Kuznetsov produced a shock on the third day at Wimbledon to beat David Ferrer 6-7(5) 6-0 3-6 6-3 6-2 in an enthralling contest in the second round.

The Russian wasted four opportunities to win the opening set late on as his rival struggled to hit top form on serve, and Ferrer took full advantage of the mistakes to take the tie-break 7-5.

Kuznetsov responded in impressive fashion on No.2 Court by breaking Ferrer three times on his way to a surprising whitewash in the second set.

Both players traded breaks early in the third set, but it was Ferrer who edged ahead of his unseeded opponent by snatching a break in the eighth game before safely serving out for a 2-1 lead.

Kuznetsov refused to sit back and watch the seventh seed progress, and he managed to once again respond by earning a 3-1 advantage in the fourth set on his way to levelling the scores.

It seemed that the decider would be evenly contested when each player claimed a break of serve early on, but it was not a sign of things to come as the 23-year-old Russian took full control.

Kuznetsov was able to capitalise on Ferrer's problems to break his rival two more times, before showing nerves of steel to comfortably serve out for a stunning win.
