Australian star Leyton Hewitt has claimed that he executed his gameplan "perfectly" when he booked a place in the second round of the US Open.
The 34-year-old, who is competing in his final tournament at Flushing Meadows before he retires in January, sealed victory over Aleksandr Nedovyesov, who was forced to retire with a shoulder injury.
"I felt like I got off to a great start," Hewitt told PA. "Came out and executed my gameplan perfectly.
"He's an awkward opponent because I wanted to be aggressive and play on my terms, but it's a bit hit-and-miss out there so you're trying to make him play that extra shot as well. If you don't get enough on it, he's capable of hitting winners. I was happy to play a really good tie-break."
Hewitt will face Bernard Tomic in the second round.
