Kevin Anderson out in Madrid Open first round

Fifteenth-seed Kevin Anderson is beaten 6-4 6-3 by Italian Simone Bolelli in the first round of the Mutua Madrid Open.

Simone Bolelli booked his place in the second round of the Mutua Madrid Open with a straight-sets victory over 15th-seed Kevin Anderson this afternoon.

The Italian, ranked 52nd in the world, took the only break point of the first set in the third game on his way to a 6-4 success.

The third game again proved pivotal in the second as Bolelli snapped Anderson's serve for a second time and continued to easily hold himself.

At 5-3 down, Anderson wobbled on serve and Bolelli had three match points before converting on his fourth to claim the set 6-3, sealing victory in an hour and 15 minutes.
