Roberto Bautista Agut has defeated Sam Querrey in straight sets to advance through to the third round of the Madrid Open.
The 14th seed was pushed by his American opponent but he held his nerve on the big points to come through as a 7-5 6-4 winner.
Despite Bautista Agut dropping just five points behind his serve during the opener, he found himself trading breaks with his opponent, but the Spaniard finished strongly to move into a one-set advantage.
The second set was also fiercely contested but after the first eight games were shared, Bautista Agut broke Querrey's serve for the third time in the match before serving out to love.
