Tomas Berdych knocks home favourite Nick Kyrgios out of Australian Open

Tomas Berdych drops a set but manages to come back to seal victory over Nick Kyrgios in the third round of the Australian Open in Melbourne.

Nick Kyrgios's Australian Open campaign came to an end on Friday when the controversial tennis star was beaten by Tomas Berdych in the third round of the tournament in Melbourne.

The Czech sixth seed ousted the home favourite in a 6-3 6-4 1-6 6-4 triumph in the Rod Laver Arena in just under an hour-and-a-half.

Berdych drew first blood when he went a break up early in the opening set, and Kyrgios squandered two break points, eventually succumbing to a one-set deficit.

Both players were strong on serve at the start of the second set, but once again, Berdych took advantage before doubling his lead on the hard court.

Despite looking down and out after the first two sets, Kyrgios launched a big comeback by sealing an early double break and storming to a 4-0 lead.

The 20-year-old managed to hold off Berdych to claim the third set, but he failed to continue the fightback as his opponent took just a single break point, which was enough to win the match and earn a spot in the fourth round.
