Tottenham Hotspur target Jan Vertonghen has said that he wants his future to be decided well before the transfer window closes.
The 25-year-old Ajax defender was thought to be close to completing a move to White Hart Lane early last month, but a contract dispute with his current employers has put the deal on hold.
Ajax's Eredivisie season begins on August 8 when they face AZ Alkmaar and Vertonghen insists that he will continue to give 100% for the side despite the uncertainty regarding his future.
He told the club's official website: "Of course it goes through my head that there is still no clarity about my future. It is difficult and I can't say I don't think about it but that's how it is and I have to adapt.
"For now I play for Ajax and I will always give 100% for them. I am a professional athlete and despite all the issues for me it is simply the beginning of a new season. And that, for me, starts at Ajax.
"It is obviously impossible to say how long these things take but well before August 31 there must be clarity. Until then I will just focus on Ajax."
Vertonghen has made 155 league appearances for the Amsterdam club.
