Notts County manager Shaun Derry has reiterated his desire to sign ex-Manchester United goalkeeper Roy Carroll, admitting that he is "hopeful" that he can strike a deal with the 36-year-old.
The stopper, who spent last season at Greek club Olympiacos, has been on trial at Meadow Lane, with the Magpies manager eager for him to put pen to paper after Bartosz Bialkowski's departure to Ipswich Town.
Speaking to talkSPORT, Derry said: "[Notts County] were told about Roy's desire to come back to the English leagues.
"We would have been fools not to look at him. When he first came into the building we were delighted with the shape he was in, his commitment.
"We're hopeful we can sign a deal with Roy."
Carroll has won 34 caps for the Northern Ireland national team.
