Rafael Benitez: "Our situation is bad"

Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez admits that his side are in a 'bad situation' as they fall back into the relegation zone.

Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez has admitted that his side are in a 'bad situation' after they dropped two points at Villa Park this afternoon.

The Magpies entered the match as heavy favourites against already-relegated Aston Villa but had to settle for a point after 90 goalless minutes.

Meanwhile, Sunderland grabbed a 3-2 win over Chelsea to move out of the relegation zone and put their fate into their own hands.

"I think that we didn't play well," Benitez told reporters. "Maybe because of too much anxiety, which made the players tense. We could not do what we wanted.

"Our situation is bad and simple. We have to wait [for Sunderland's game in hand] and after, try to win, but we do not know what [Sunderland] will do.

"Obviously it depends on them more than us, but we will have to fight to get three points and see what happens. Everyone is disappointed."

Newcastle's final game of the season is at home to second-placed Tottenham Hotspur next Sunday afternoon.
