Report: Mikael Silvestre to join Portland Timbers

Former Manchester United defender Mikael Silvestre is close to signing a two-year deal with MLS club Portland Timbers, according to reports.

Former Manchester United defender Mikael Silvestre is reportedly poised to sign for Major League Soccer outfit Portland Timbers.

The Frenchman, who spent nine seasons at Old Trafford between 1999 and 2008, has been without a club since leaving German side Werder Bremen in the summer.

He has since been training with the Red Devils in order to maintain his fitness while he looked for a new club.

That search now appears to be over, with Sky Sports News claiming that the 35-year-old is on the verge of penning a two-year contract with Portland.

Silvestre won five Premier League titles, and one Champions League and FA Cup winners' medal apiece during his United career.
