Galatasaray's sporting co-ordinator Bulunt Tulun has claimed that Manchester United tried to Wesley Sneijder two weeks ago.
The Premier League champions were linked with a host of midfielders during the recent summer transfer window, including Cesc Fabregas, Sami Khedira and Daniele De Rossi.
They also saw a move for Athletic Bilbao's Ander Herrera fall through yesterday evening before the deadline passed, although they did manage to secure the services of Marouane Fellaini from Everton.
However, Tulun has revealed that United manager David Moyes was keen to add Dutch international Sneijder, who only joined his Turkish employers in January.
"Sneijder received an indirect offer from Manchester United two weeks ago but it was not accepted," Tulun told Milliyet.
"There are several clubs that want him but just like we can't let go of Burak Yilmaz we also have to keep hold of Sneijder."
The Red Devils were also heavily linked with Sneijder in 2011 when he was an Inter Milan player.
