Manchester United's deadline-day swoop for Athletic Bilbao midfielder Ander Herrera has reportedly been called off.
United had a bid of around £24m rejected by Bilbao last Friday, with the Basque club adamant that Herrera's release clause of around £30m has to be met before personal terms could be considered.
Herrera was ready to undergo a medical in Bilbao this evening but United have decided against matching Athletic's valuation of the Spanish youth international, according to AS.
Spanish football journalist reporter Guillem Balague also told Sky Sports News that United's pursuit of the 24-year-old has ended, with the Red Devils favouring a last-ditch deal for Everton midfielder Marouane Fellaini.
