Sir Alex Ferguson believes that Real Madrid are as dangerous as Barcelona.

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has said that Real Madrid are just as dangerous as Barcelona this season.

The Red Devils, who are close to securing a place in the knockout stages of the Champions League, will face Benfica this week in a battle for the top spot in Group C. Meanwhile, the Scot has pointed to the Spanish league leaders as potential favourites to win it all.

"I have been watching their games," he said. "They are playing really well and have improved a lot which is why they are top of La Liga.

"In fact, overall I think they are playing every bit as good as Barcelona and their goals record is phenomenal. And Cristiano Ronaldo, 100 goals in 102 games, is incredible.

"They are definite threats and fit as hell. They really do put some energy into their games."

Real Madrid remain top of La Liga – three points ahead of Barcelona – following their win over Valencia this weekend.
