Roberto Mancini believes that it was vital his Manchester City side recorded a 1-0 victory over Arsenal earlier today.

City had lost their grip on top spot following Manchester United's 2-0 win over Queens Park Rangers this afternoon.

However, the three points that they collected from their match with Arsenal has seen them regain first place.

"It was important [to win] because Manchester United are doing a good season like Manchester City," Mancini told reporters. "They are strong and we are but the season is long.

"It is important to be at the top at the end."

City are back in action on Wednesday evening when they take on Stoke City at the Etihad Stadium.
