Roberto Mancini: 'Owen Hargreaves can be important for us'

Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini says that Owen Hargreaves can be important for the team after scoring on his debut in the Carling Cup.

Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini has said that Owen Hargreaves can become an important player for the club.

The midfielder, who moved to City over the summer after being released by Manchester United, scored on his debut in the Blues' 2-0 win against Birmingham City in the Carling Cup.

The 30-year-old, who had endured three injury-plagued seasons at Old Trafford before making the switch, pleased his manager with his contribution.

"It was good for him," said the Italian. "Owen is a fantastic player, who can become a very important player for us.

"He hasn't had any problems in the last three weeks. At the moment his knee is fine.

"We said before the match we would give him between 45 and 60 minutes. As it turned out, he was okay for 60."

City continue their league campaign on Saturday when they take on Everton at the Etihad Stadium.
