Gareth Barry is admits that an exit from the Champions League is on the cards.

Gareth Barry is prepared for a tough Champions League clash on Wednesday, and has admitted that an exit from Europe is on the cards.

Despite enjoying a five-point lead at the top of the Premier League, City have struggled in Europe so far this season.

They must defeat group winners Bayern Munich on Wednesday and hope Napoli fall to Villarreal in Spain in order to qualify for the last 16.

"We're confident," Barry said. "We believe that Villarreal have got the team that can get a result.

"But the bottom line is we've got to beat a very good team over here in Bayern Munich, so that will be a hard target in itself.

"It's tough but we can do it and it's just fingers crossed that Villarreal can do a job for us."

Barry admits that he would be disappointed to exit the Champions League.

"We're not going to lie and say we can concentrate on the league," he said. "It would be a big disappointment but it's the first time the club has been in the Champions League.

"Although we feel we've got the quality to progress, it is another learning curve."

City's last Champions League match ended in 2-1 away defeat to Napoli.
