Impressive Ipswich Town run continues with Leeds United thrashing

Ipswich Town ease to a 4-1 home victory over Leeds United to keep them just one point behind league leaders Derby County.

Ipswich Town have picked up their fifth win in their last six games with a comprehensive 4-1 victory at home to Leeds United this afternoon.

Despite Ipswich's recent good form, Leeds went ahead in the fourth minute when Mirco Antenucci turned home Stephen Warnock's cross.

However, their lead lasted less than 10 minutes as Daryl Murphy got the home side back on level terms with a precise header.

Only a brave block from Christophe Berra prevented Leeds from taking the lead almost immediately after Murphy's goal, while Jason Pearce threw his body in front of another effort from Murphy at the other end.

Antenucci was then denied by a good save from Bartosz Bialkowski before Paul Anderson was bundled over in the box by Warnock to hand Ipswich the chance to take the lead.

David McGoldrick made no mistake from the spot and fired Ipswich ahead for the first time in the game shortly before the half-hour mark.

Although McGoldrick fired another shot wide of the target, Murphy notched his second goal of the game with a cool finish in first-half stoppage time to put the Blues in control.

Just three minutes after the break, Berra effectively put the game beyond the visitors as he finished from close range.

The fourth goal allowed Ipswich to slow play down for the majority of a dull second half, but Murphy came close to grabbing his hat-trick, only for Marco Silvestri to deny him with a good save.

Chants of "ole" rang around Portman Road as Ipswich kept within touching distance of leaders Derby with another three points.
